Guitar Tab Generator

Turn a mood, style or skill level into readable ASCII guitar tabs. Get original riffs, chord progressions and practice licks with tuning, tempo and playing tips included.

How the guitar tab generator works

Describe what you want to play: a genre, a mood, a technique you are practicing, or a chord progression you like. Mention your tuning and skill level if they matter. The generator writes an original piece as six-line ASCII tablature with bar breaks, then adds the key, tempo, fingering notes and a few practice tips. You also get one variation, so you can stretch the idea into a verse and chorus or push your technique a little further.

Tips for the best results

Be specific about feel rather than naming a famous track, for example slow bluesy shuffle in A with bends. Say beginner, intermediate or advanced so the fret stretches suit your hands. Ask for drop D or open G if you play in an alternate tuning. Practice new riffs slowly with a metronome, then raise the tempo in small steps. Paste the tab into a monospace font so the string lines stay aligned.

FAQ

Can it write tabs for famous songs?

No. It writes original music only. If you mention a well-known song, it creates a fresh riff with a similar mood or technique so you can practice without copying anyone's work.

Does it support alternate tunings?

Yes. Name the tuning, such as drop D, DADGAD or open G, and the tab header and fret numbers will match it. Standard tuning is used when you do not specify one.

How do I read the tab?

Each of the six lines is a string, high e at the top and low E at the bottom. Numbers are frets to play, read left to right, with bar lines marking measures.
